Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the Cake ingredients: flour, sugar, baking soda, salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and bourbon to the dry ingredients. Beat until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, prepare the Butterscotch Sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, bourbon, and salt.
  7. Once the cake is cooled slightly, poke holes all over the top with a fork. Pour the warm Butterscotch Sauce evenly over the cake.
  8. Let the cake cool completely before serving.
