1 cup Chestnuts-cooked and coarsely chopped
4 tbsp Butter
1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Steam or boil Squash until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt Butter over medium heat. Whisk in Flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, creating a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in Milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened.
  5. Stir in Nutmeg, Salt, and Pepper. Remove from heat and stir in Cheddar Cheese until melted and smooth. This is your Cheese Sauce.
  6. In the prepared baking dish, layer Squash and Chestnuts. Pour Cheese Sauce over the top, ensuring everything is well coated.
  7. In a small bowl, combine Breadcrumbs and melted Butter. Sprinkle evenly over the gratin.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.
