What You'll Need

Instructions
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the bread cubes in batches until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine all Syrup ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the piloncillo sugar is dissolved and the syrup has thickened slightly. Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves.
  3. In a baking dish, layer the fried bread, raisins, peanuts, and shredded cheddar cheese. Pour the syrup over the layers, ensuring all the bread is moistened.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.
