A refined take on classic Civil War baked beans, featuring smoked ham hock for deeper flavor and a touch of brown sugar for balance.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- In a large pot, combine all Beans ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together all Sauce ingredients.
- In a skillet, cook Flavorings Ham Hock until lightly browned. Remove ham hock and set aside.
- Sauté Flavorings Onion in the rendered fat from the ham hock until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the Sauce and sautéed onion to the pot with the beans. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the bean mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Nestle the cooked ham hock into the beans.
- Cover and bake for 2.5 hours, or until the beans are thickened and tender. Remove ham hock before serving.
