Instructions
  1. Dissolve the Food Grade Lye in the Water. Stir until completely dissolved. *Caution: Lye is caustic. Handle with care and avoid contact with skin and eyes.*
  2. Brown the Butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and fragrant. Let cool slightly.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together all Dry Ingredients.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine Buttermilk, Browned Butter, Egg, and Honey. Add the Lye Water mixture to the wet ingredients and stir well.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 22-27 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
