1.5 lbs Parsnips-peeled and thinly sliced
2 Pears-peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
2 tbsp Butter
2 tbsp All-purpose flour
2 cups Milk

A comforting and slightly sweet gratin featuring parsnips and pears baked in a creamy sauce.
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange half of the Parsnips in the prepared baking dish. Top with all of the Pears, then the remaining Parsnips.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the Butter from the Sauce group over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the Milk from the Sauce group until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the Nutmeg, Salt, and Pepper from the Sauce group.
  6. Pour the sauce over the parsnips and pears. Sprinkle with the Cheddar cheese from the Cheese group.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
