4 cups Whole Milk
1 cup Granulated Sugar
6 Large Egg Yolks
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch Salt

A simple, comforting boiled custard made with basic pantry ingredients. This is a traditional dessert, perfect for a cozy night in.
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine all Custard Base ingredients.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.
  3. Continue stirring until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of the spoon (about 10-15 minutes). Do not boil!
  4. Remove from heat and strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl to remove any cooked egg bits.
  5. Pour the custard into individual serving dishes or one large bowl.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing the plastic directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely chilled.
