  1. Dissolve the Food Grade Lye in the Water. Stir until completely dissolved. *Caution: Lye is caustic. Handle with care and avoid contact with skin and eyes.*
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together all Dry Ingredients.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine Buttermilk, Vegetable Oil, and Egg. Add the Lye Water mixture to the wet ingredients and stir well.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
