Instructions
🎙️ Cook with voice coach- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water, mixing until the dough comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the sliced steak and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with garlic powder and black pepper.
- Assemble the Empanadas: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about inch thickness. Cut out circles using a 4-5 inch cookie cutter or bowl. Place a spoonful of the steak filling and a sprinkle of provolone cheese in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Bake the Empanadas: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the empanadas with the egg wash. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
