A classic, hearty lasagna with layers of ricotta, meat sauce, and mozzarella. This version uses readily available ingredients and is perfect for a family dinner.
A classic, hearty lasagna with layers of ricotta, meat sauce, and mozzarella. This version uses readily available ingredients and is perfect for a family dinner.
Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large pot, brown the Ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the Onion and Garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the Crushed tomatoes, Tomato sauce, Oregano, Basil, Red pepper flakes, Salt, and Pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Prepare the Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the Ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, Egg, Parsley, Salt, and Pepper. Mix well.
Cook the Lasagna Noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Assemble the Lasagna: Spread a thin layer of Meat Sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layer with 3 Lasagna noodles, half of the Cheese Filling, and 1/3 of the Mozzarella cheese.
Repeat layers: Meat Sauce, 3 Lasagna noodles, remaining Cheese Filling, and another 1/3 of the Mozzarella cheese.
Top with the remaining Meat Sauce and the final 1/3 of the Mozzarella cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
Let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.
